An often question asked is: what is the best stances in various game situations?

Well, it all depends on the Grip a player is using. For example:

For Eastern Forehand Grip the ideal stance is square, in some situations open and Semi-open stance can also be used.

For Semi-Western Forehand Grip the ideal stance is Open or Semi-open but Square Stance can also be used in some game situations.

Having said, if you need to recover from a wide position then open stance is the best. For normal rally situations semi-open and square stances can also be used. The square stance is the best for hitting down the line, and open or semi-open stance is the best for cross court shots.

Because of the above variations the top players use variety of stances for their Forehand shots.

Players and Coaches may keep these factors in mind as they develop their Forehand.
